Nagadeepa & Nainativu Temples

History

Reached by ferry from Kurikadduwan, Nainativu island holds two revered shrines side by side: the Buddhist Nagadeepa Purana Vihara, said to have been visited by the Buddha himself, and the Hindu Nagapooshani Amman Kovil. Together they reflect the deep, shared sacred history of the island's Buddhist and Hindu communities.
